Add a CloudTools Component to a Lightning Page

CloudTools Lightning Web Components (LWCs) bring features such as Microsoft 365 mail, files, search, and chat into Salesforce pages. Use Lightning App Builder to place a component on a page, save your changes, and choose who sees the page. This guide covers page placement and activation; configuring individual components is covered separately.

Before you begin

  • Make sure CloudTools is installed in your Salesforce org.
  • Use an administrator account with the Customize Application permission to edit Lightning pages.
  • Decide where the component belongs: an app page, a Home page, or a record page. Component availability depends on the page type.

Adding a component to a page does not grant users access to CloudTools or connected services. Users still need the appropriate CloudTools permissions, licenses, and connection setup.

1. Open the page in Lightning App Builder

  1. In Lightning Experience, navigate to the Home page or record page you want to customize.
  2. Click the gear icon and select Edit Page.
  3. Wait for Lightning App Builder to open and confirm that you are editing the intended page.

You can also open Setup, enter Lightning App Builder in Quick Find, and click Edit beside an existing page. This works for app, Home, and record pages. To start with a new page, click New and follow the page creation wizard.

When you first edit a standard Salesforce page, Salesforce creates a custom copy that you can save and activate. If a custom page is already assigned, Edit Page opens that page. Use Lightning App Builder for this task; the object’s page layout editor is a different tool. See Salesforce’s Lightning page editing guide.

2. Add the CloudTools component

  1. In the Components panel on the left, expand Custom – Managed to find the components supplied by installed packages.
  2. Find the CloudTools component you want to add. You can use the component search box to search by its displayed name, such as M365 Essentials or M365 Search.
  3. Drag the component into the desired region of the page canvas.
  4. Adjust its position by dragging it within the page. Choose a region with enough space for the content your users will view.

The CloudTools M365 components can be added to app, Home, and record pages. Other components can have different supported page types. Lightning App Builder only offers components compatible with the page you are editing.

The canvas helps you arrange the page, but a component may display a placeholder or require configuration before it can show connected content. Follow the component’s configuration guide after completing the page setup.

3. Save the page

  1. Review the component’s position and the surrounding page layout.
  2. Click Save.
  3. If prompted, enter the page information and resolve any validation messages.

Saving a new page stores its design. Activation determines where Salesforce uses it. If the page is already active, saving updates the page for users with its existing assignments; you only need to revisit activation when changing those assignments.

4. Activate and assign the page

Click Activate when prompted, or open Activation in Lightning App Builder. The choices depend on the page type:

Page typeHow to make it available
Record pageAssign the page as the default for the object’s records across the org, as an app default, or for selected combinations of apps, record types, and profiles. Review the applicable form factor when prompted.
Home pageSet it as the org default, assign it to selected apps, or assign it to selected apps and profiles.
App pageReview the page’s tab label, icon, and visibility settings, then add it to the navigation of the Lightning apps where users should find it.

Follow the activation wizard to review and save your selections. Choose assignments that match the intended audience. For additional details, see Salesforce’s guidance for activating record and Home pages and activating app pages.

5. Check the page in Salesforce

  1. Click Back to leave Lightning App Builder.
  2. Open the app and page covered by your assignment. For an app page, select its navigation item. For a record page, open a record of the appropriate object and record type.
  3. Refresh the page if necessary and confirm that the CloudTools component appears in the expected location.
  4. Verify that an intended user can see the page, especially if its assignment depends on an app or profile.

If the component does not appear, check that you saved the page, activated it for the correct audience, and opened the matching app. Also review any component visibility filters. If the component appears but asks for configuration or authorization, proceed to its configuration guide.
